History
Dan was born in Port St. Joe, Florida, on July 12, 1974. He earned a B.A. in History from New Mexico State University in 1997. Dan then attended Baylor Law School in Waco, Texas, and earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2000. Dan was licensed to practice law by the Texas Supreme Court in 2000, and he has practiced law for eight years.
His first Attorney position was serving as an Assistant City Attorney in Amarillo, Texas. In his capacity as Assistant City Attorney, he prosecuted traffic tickets and Class C Misdemeanors.
Dan left the Amarillo position to assume the duties of an Assistant District Attorney for Denton County, Texas. Dan worked with their office for six years. While he was an Assistant District Attorney in Denton, he prosecuted criminal cases and handled the Child Protective Services' cases, these are the type of cases that typically involve serious abuse and neglect of children. In 2007, Dan was promoted to the position of Chief of the Child Protective Services (CPS) prosecution unit.
During his tenure as a prosecutor in the State of Texas, Dan obtained extensive courtroom experience as a litigator of both criminal and family law cases. He has tried more than 50 jury trials. Dan's jury trials have given him a wide range of experience in many different aspects of criminal and family law. His trials have included Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), Drug Possession, Robbery, Assault-Family Violence, Theft, Indecent Exposure, Aggravated Assault, and Termination of Parental Rights.
